Services
A treatment lasts about an hour. To monitor progress and allow the practitioner the information to provide the best care, each session will involve some discussion. The acupuncture needles are inserted and then left in place for about 20 minutes. Many patients will be encouraged to take Chinese Herbs in order to better treat their unique situation. Additionally, dietary advice, suggestions on self care and exercises are commonly provided.
Additional therapeutic techniques utilized are:
Massage: the Chinese technique known as tuina. Tuina often involves acupressure on certain points following an acupuncture treatment.
Guasha: a technique that utilizes a small ceramic tool to rub against an area of pain. This method releases the tension in muscles and the build up of metabolites from over use or damaged tissue where an injury is present. This is particularly useful in acute injury or smaller areas.
Cupping: a technique that utilizes glass cups that are placed on an area with suction. This method is similar to the Guasha in its effect. It differs in that it can be particularly useful in chronic pain and tension, and is useful on larger areas such as the back.
